In 2007, Johannesburg, South Africa hosted the Fifth World Summit on Media for Children around the theme, “Media as a Tool for Global Peace and Democracy.” The Summits – launched in 1995 in Australia – offer a global platform celebrating the rich tapestry of children’s media.

Theme: Media as a Tool for Global Peace and Democracy

• AnimAction was an International Youth Media Advisor Sitting in the Think Tank and a Partner of the 5th World Summit on Media for Children’s.

• AnimAction conducted youth animation workshops in South Africa leading-up to the 5th World Summit on Media for Children.

AnimAction was invited to collaborate as an animation training partner with Adobe Youth Voices.
AnimAction trained 60 youth and teachers in animation at the Adobe Youth Voices, Christel House India Learning Centre based in Bangalore. Christel House India Learning Centre is all about teaching literacy with the majority of their students being part of the “untouchables” caste. They have a good success rate with graduates finding technology-related employment in Bangalore. There were three other local government Bangalore schools attending the AnimAction animation workshop.

The collaborative efforts of all the partners developed into a resounding success. Youth worked in teams developing and producing six 30-second animated shorts that carried their self-selected theme expressing themselves and how they view their community.

AnimAction produced the annual TEAM Awards event for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 20 straight years. This popular, highly-charged event provided youth participants with an opportunity to see what other schools and teams had achieved, and to receive recognition for their creative endeavors and hard work.
